Wear Yourself

I don’t proclaim that I know 100% how to be me and feel comfortable in my own skin. I have my own insecurities time by time (especially those 3 days in the months when my hormones are up to the sky and I have the impression that my ass is too big, my arms are too skinny and my hair is not glowing).

I feel good being me and yes, I am continuously working on who I want to be. In my opinion the secret of the self-confidence it’s to not care too much about what people say. Do your groceries shopping wearing a cocktail dress or go at Walmart in a fur coat and high heels. Don’t care about the clueless teenagers which giggle when you pass by them, because you don’t wear yoga leggings, boyfriend shirt and Toms espadrilles.

Be you everyday of your life and if you feel like no wearing make-up one day because you just don’t want, don’t. Do whatever you think is good for you and don’t compare yourself with the masses. BE UNIQUE and show how cool you can be just being you.

BE ORIGINAL! Dieting, washing your hair with apple vinegar, buying your underwear from Victoria’s Secret or doing yoga will not make you looking like Adriana Lima even close. And why would you like to look like someone else when you can just look like you?

Wear yourself with pride and be confident you are looking great. Confidence can be purchased with no money and it’s this season essential item (ka-ching).

I do wear myself with makeup or no makeup, dressed up or in jeans and I really don’t care if people believe that my jacket is so 2008 and my t-shirt is from last season.

And here I am wearing my self from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Heading in the right direction

(A nice way of saying “I’m Back Bitches!”)

Sometimes at the beginning of this year I felt confused in regard to this blog and I was not so sure what the next step will be. I took a sigh and I realized that I just need a break. I didn’t feel very into it and I said that instead of providing a non-satisfactory (to me) content I rather take a “leave of absence” and come back later on. It seems I needed more time than I thought – 8 months (almost ready to cook a mini-me – oh, no, did not happen, still enjoying my childhood).

But now, I don’t know what exactly happened, but I feel incredibly optimistic, having a chance to do better, be better and simply – just be. I know there may be those who think that every come back has an over-hyped start, but why is it such a horrible thing to give yourself the opportunity to pivot and move in a fresh direction?

I for one find in every start a dose of potential and perspective. So let’s open the book and begin writing.

There is only one success…

To be able to spend your life in your own way (Christopher Morley).

I have thought over the last weeks what I want to do with this blog. I have spent quite some time thinking if I want to continue or stop. I started this blog with the idea of exploring, sharing, learning and first of all to inspire and feel inspired. I wanted to share pieces of my world and style in my own way and make others to feel inspired, whatever that meant to them.

I had days when I didn’t feel of saying anything, or I felt my content is a bit disconnected. I looked to my posts and asked myself what I want in fact to reach and what I want for this blog. An answer came into my mind: I don’t want to be another fashion blogger.

I don’t want to offend anyone. I mentioned before and I am saying it again – I like fashion blogs. I follow few of them and I look to them as sources of inspiration for my own. I admire, in fact, what fashion blogging have done to this industry and I am extremely exciting to see the evolution and the impact.

When I told to my lovely man that I’ll take a break from this blog he told me that taking a step back doesn’t mean to stop what I love to do.

I will allow myself to feel inspired again, rather than pressured to keep up. Instead of closing myself in the office to put up a post or draw on command, I will take as much time as I feel and start living my life with no other intention than simply being present.

(For saving the time of answering those questions about my picture, YES, this is how I relax – shoe therapy, and how I feel my inspiration is flying around me).

Gift # 3

I am sure you heard about words like “friends forever” or BFF. Or about that friends bind their connection through friendship bracelets. Did you ever think of offering a friendship bracelet to one of your friends to tie your friendship?

During high school I used to make those braided bracelets and exchange them with my girlfriends. But that was quite some long time ago and now I’m thinking to offer something similar to my girlfriends for Christmas, so I searched for some unique friendship bracelets. Something like a piece of jewelry and a piece of friendship.

And surprise… I found my gifts pretty quickly. The friendship bracelets I found are charming and their name is sensational – “BFrend” (quite self explanatory, hey!?). They are created by a Vancouver blogger, Monika of the Doctor’s Closet and they are made from gold base metal and plastic lacing.

“Be amazing ladies- always be on the look out to “bfrend” someone!” - as Monika says.

I’ve got my bracelets for my girlfriends and I’ve checked some for myself, too.

… 6 days until Christmas!

Gift # 2

I told you that the next period of time, until Christmas, I’m going to post gift ideas you can purchase online without the headache of going in the stores craziness.

About few weeks ago when I’ve started my gifts hunting, I talked with a friend of mine about unique Christmas gifts. Something handmade, something different, that the person you offer it will be amazed. My friend told me about some handmade dolls done by a local Vancouver artist. I was intrigued to see what exactly he is talking about.

What do you think I discovered? The most amazing handmade fabric dolls. Oh my God, they are not just awesome, but they are unique and the fact I can have one custom made it gave me the idea to order one looking exactly like my friend I would like to surprise.

Et voila, une poupée, “Fait pour Toi”

This adorable doll is made by local designer Anne Marie Belanger and each of them is unique. Or as the creator of  these cuties mentions, “they are stitched with fabrics from another era and the grand-ma’s buttons”.

Believe me, you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy these dolls. They are life time memories!

… 12 days until X-mas!

Santa’s First Row… with Anna Wintour

I thought this drawing is super funny, so why not to share it with you…?

Santa’s First Row with the one and only Anna Wintour.

The drawing belongs to Caroline Swanne (pen name - Jo Bird), a British illustrator, and it is part of the CHI & Partners Christmas exhibition.

The following weeks I will post some gift ideas you can buy online, so you can avoid the madness from the stores. The bigga’ mistake ever is to go in a mall, during the weekend, before Christmas. Big, big, big mistake!

Here is the first gift I think it’s great for one of my girlfriends – a cocktail ring. A unique Social Experiment ring, created by the Vancouver artist, Georgia Heraty.

Paraphrasing the artist “Each Social Experiment piece is inspired by the natural beauty of the West Coast, the sun, sand, rain, surf, ancient forests and high mountains of the Pacific Northwest”.

Don’t you think that these rings are just amazing?

I bought two for myself a while ago, but the new Holiday Ring is so beautiful that… (I may gonna buy one)

… 15 more sleeps until X-mas!

Since I moved to Canada or better say on the West Coast of Canada, in Vancouver, I purchased about 12 umbrellas. I’m not kidding! Think about a continuing rain from October to May and some years to June. I don’t hate the rain any longer. I guess you get used with it. In fact, I prefer rain than snow. And I am glad that the winters on the West Coast are really mild and the temperature is rarely going under zero degrees in the winter.

If you’ll think to the song of The Weather Girls, “It’s Raining Men”, you’ll say that Vancouver is a city full of men.

It’s Raining Men! Hallelujah! – It’s Raining Men! Amen!
I’m gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It’s Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It’s Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean.

Anyway, I’m not going to tell you about the population census of Vancouver or the dating scene.

All I want to point here it’s about the fashion faux pas in the rain. And I will start with the rubber boots. Once the winter season is coming in Vancouver, the rubber boots come out. They’re like winter tires (different rubber though). I find them useful when it’s raining only, but they are a completely fiasco if you try matching them to your outfit just for the sake of maybe it will rain. Put an extra pair of shoes in your purse, to wear in your office or any indoor. Plus that your feet will not smell like rubber the whole day.

In case you are afraid of being wet, the solution will be a rain coat, a trench and a good umbrella.

I have 3 umbrellas in my car and, yes, I do carry a pair of rubber boots in my trunk for when I wash my car and the walk through the rain situations which don’t take more than 3 min.

What is your walk through rain solution?

Top On Top

Few weeks ago I visited the local Topshop store (which seems to be the biggest international location) and after checking on some stuff, I was a bit disappointed that I am leaving with my hands empty and I cannot find something I do not have already. Oh, I’ve stopped shopping the same thing and ending with the exact same product.

But, right before to leave, I saw them… A variation of lace up brogue shoes. Beside the fact they were so cute, the leather was so soft… Grabbed them, payed them, brought them home with me.

I made so many outfit scenarios in my mind, that I was so anxious to wear them. So, I wore them with jeans, with chinos, skinny pants, skirts and even dresses. For an entire week, I wore them everyday. No kidding! Probably, people at work thought I live in one pair of shoes. They are soooo COMFY and have a great price (under $100). It’s been quite some time since I found a pair of shoes to be worn with almost any piece of clothes and especially to be that comfortable (I can tell you that I’m having blisters even from espadrilles or flats – thanks to my super delicate feet).

Did you check Topshop lately? Give it a try and I bet you’ll find your “it” product.
